Creator Spotlight: Apologies

Welcome to our Creator spotlight!

Continuing our series of Space Engineers Creator Spotlights with Apologies.

“Hey, I’m Apologies. Never meant for that name to stick as I only made a youtube channel just to post videos to a facebook group. Now I just have to roll with it. I used to play games like Minecraft with mods to make it more technical, until I stumbled on Space Engineers back in 2014. I was blown away by the physics and things you could build; that was before they added most of the parts we have now. I really fell in love with it when pistons and rotors came into the game. There was a time that I thought I would never be able to make a large grid ship because of the scale you had to build at.

I started building things that I liked in games – ions, cannons, folding bases, etc. I’ve always enjoyed transforming things and this game allowed you to build exactly what you wanted, as long as you know how to keep the physics engine in check. Playing with timers and event blocks, and adding as many things that I can to my builds just became something that I tried to do in every project.

I am a father of 4 and a full time aircraft mechanic (no I’m not a engineer as many have asked in comments😆) so my time to play is limited, but I still try to get a video out every few weeks/months. I may take breaks after big projects but I always seem to gravitate back to Space Engineers. It is my most played game by far (4.5k hours to be exact) and it will probably only be surpassed by Space Engineers 2.

I have really enjoyed working with Keen this past year and was even asked to design a few things for the official patch trailers. It’s honestly a dream come true to have your work be featured in your favorite game. I’m loving everything they are rolling out with SE1 and I’m looking forward to SE2 having some mechanical blocks for us to enjoy!”

Viking Hangar

This is my latest project. The Viking is from Starcraft 2 and one of my favorite units besides the siege tank that is also in here. As I was going to make the video I figured it should have a hanger and that kind of morphed into this.

I don’t really plan any of my builds, I just add stuff that I think will be cool.

Nuke Factory

This is by far the most complicated thing I’ve ever done in Space Engineers. I’m guessing it took about 400 hours and a lot of reloads before it was complete. I built the rocket, then broke it into pieces, put it on the launch pad and worked my way backwards taking pieces off until I could program it to put it all together.

Loved how it turned out by I burned myself out pretty good on it.

Super Weapon

My most viewed video. This one is modeled off Command and Conquer series and their buildings always unfold and come out of the ground. Fortunately for them and unfortunately for me, most of their animations can clip through each other. So I had to figure out a way to make all the parts work in a “real world” setting.

Mobile Deployable Base

This was my take on a Command and Conquer Mobile Construction Vehicle. Just a truck that can fold out into a base to work out of. The base doesn’t have anything in it because of the tight space.

It’s not practical, but I like it.

Fighter Factory

Still one of my favorite builds. I really liked how this fighter turned out and decided to make a factory to print them out. It’s obviously over engineered but that’s the fun stuff for me.

The more complicated and parts that move/fold into place the better.
