Creator Spotlight: Hanels alias “Space Train Works”

Welcome to our Creator spotlight!

Continuing our series of Space Engineers Creator Spotlights with Hanels alias “Space Train Works”.

“I clearly remember how I started playing Space Engineers. It was end of the 2019. Friend of mine invited me to this game and we started at multiplayer server where he could teach me a lot of basic stuff becase the game itself was already hard to understand how everything works. There were so much things to do and explore. But at a time I was little bit frustrated because there were only few “blocks” and I missed so much stuff. Later all the updates and new blocks were extremely useful.

Still I was very addicted to this game. First days I even couldn’t sleep how I wanted to play.

Now I focus on the railway systems. I created my first train by accident. I built a truck with a trailer and got idea I could join another trailers. So I made it of 10 trailers. It was long and behaved very nicely and It was quite fun. And then placed question: Can I place wheeled truck on the rails? Answer was YES! That’s how I got idea about trains in space engineers. I started with simple projects and needed to find out every detail, every aspect and try every block in the game.

It was when “Wasteland DLC” came out and we got exhausts and I knew I need them. Also I know myself that I’m about to get inspired by other creators, take their ideas, use them and rework them. That’s why I told myself I mustn’t watch videos or check steam workshop otherwise It would ruin my progress. Now I can clearly say I never steal anyone’s ideas.

Something about trains in Space Engineers… Trains are little bit different then cars or ships. You are building two systems at the same time when they depend on each other.
First it must be idea, some new design or specific place and then you start prototyping. Trying first design. Adapting wheels, gears, suspensions and rails together. Create train’s bodies like locomotives and wagons. Testing all the scenarios and speeds. Create all shapes of rails (left, right, up down), railway switches and train stations. At the end it is possible to make trains fully autonomous with vanilla blocks only.

At the beginning I used a lots of mods. Now I prefer vanilla game only with DLCs. I use only one script for trains to keep stable speeds. But I already proved that it is possible to build cruise control system without scripts or mods, just check my tutorial videos 😉 “

Anteros Mining Colony [train world]

Welcome engineers in our deep space colony on the planet Anteros!

Colony is self sufficient, we have materials, technology, water and mainly TRAINS !
Whole colony is connected with maglev railway system allowing us to distribute people, raw materials, final components a energy coming from our powerplant.

Clang Railway – Steam Trains

Clang Express railway system is designed to be realistic as much as possible. Smallest possible rails created from large grids separated by hinges with lowest possbile PCU numbers. I have spend 100 hours preparing and testing whole system, Large railway and this small railway. Small railway needed 3 hours to be finished.

World is completely MODless and using scripts only for cruise control.

Cyber Train – Earth Railway System

Bi-rail wailway system is one of my most advanced systems. There are no active mods. Only one script for cruise control.

Railway is similar to my previous one built for large grid. This version is made for small grid as small as possible.

Gantry Crane V2

Large grid gantry crane designed to load “tutorial” train with cargo containers.

WASD controls, easy to use.

Mobile Crane

Mobile crane without any mods or scripts. WASD controlled.
