Welcome to our Creator spotlight!

Continuing our series of Space Engineers Creator Spotlights with Kev.

“What I like most about Space Engineers is that there are so many ways to contribute to the community. You can build ships, make blueprints, create mods and scenarios, make videos, run servers, or just share ideas with other players. I also really enjoy that if there’s something you don’t vibe with in Space Engineers, you can usually rebalance it, mod it, or build a scenario around it. That creates a really healthy ecosystem where players can experiment with different ways to play instead of everybody being locked into the exact same experience. Space Engineers is also one of the few places where it’s completely okay to geek out, hyperfocus, or pretend your latest build is somehow crucial for the future of gaming.

I spent a long time joining random servers and rebuilding the old starting pods into barely-functional mining ships or economy runners. To me, grinding one thing down so you can make something else work better is engineering. A lot of my later mods and videos came from those experiences, especially my Economy Starter Ships mod where I intentionally kept the ships exposed and easy to understand so players could learn from them and build their own versions. I spend most of my time in SE now testing or trying something out.

I run an educational Space Engineers YouTube channel (SEWithKev) alongside the modding work, and the two really support each other. A lot of the videos originally came from wanting to show people how certain builds or progression ideas worked because a blueprint alone usually wasn’t enough. I like viewers to walk away from a video with an arm full of goodies: practical tips, engineering ideas, useful mods, blueprints, or a better understanding of the game. Most of the time I’m trying to make systems approachable and help people become better engineers.

A lot of my mods start from playthroughs I’ve had or future scenarios I want to build. I’ll run into some progression problem and think “there should probably be something here.” Sometimes that turns into something small like a cheaper early-game battery or a stone refinery that helps players survive without a survival kit. Sometimes it turns into larger systems like teleportation or renewable resource mechanics. I usually release things as soon as I think they’re fun or useful instead of waiting for them to be perfect, and then I improve them later if people really connect with them. I think that practical, iterative approach is a big part of why I still enjoy creating for Space Engineers after all these years.”

Skyblock Scenario

Start in space, with no asteroids or planets. Use a Solar Ore Generator or scrap to survive!

Like Skyblock, this playthrough lets you create your world from “nothing”.

VTS Voxel Teleport System

This mod allows you to teleport ore back to base to mine it.

Power Cell Discharger

Adds Reactors that use Power Cells as fuel. A great alternative to Uranium early game. Perfect for moon starts also.

Balanced perfectly for any survival world.

ClearCut Survival Bore Miner

This miner is designer for asteroid mining and space transport. Safe up to 40% load on any moon. You’ll need to add an additional thrust module if you want to try using on a planet.

With the latest in mining tech this drill is capable of coasting through (bore mining) an asteroid with only 5 drills (official server limit).

Teleport Gateway

This mod adds a block that can be used to teleport players and ships/rovers over any distance.
