Welcome to our Creator spotlight!

Continuing our series of Space Engineers Creator Spotlights with Mr. Midori.

“Although I’d had my eye on Space Engineers for years, I only started playing in 2018. From the beginning, I focused on building ships intended for actual survival gameplay, aiming to strike a balance between function and aesthetics. While there were already many excellent designs on the Workshop, I found that few fully met my needs in survival. That gap pushed me to start building my own ships and to eventually share them, in case other players were looking for something practical, reliable, and ready to use. What started as a personal solution gradually grew into a larger design language.

My build style still centers around survival-optimized civilian ships, including freighters, logistical vessels, and solo-capable ships designed for independent operation. At the same time, I’ve expanded into survival-friendly combat vessels, applying the same philosophy of practicality and durability while still looking decent. Every design is built with the expectation that it will be used, not just displayed. It needs to be efficient and capable of holding up under actual gameplay.

My primary inspiration is necessity. Most of my designs begin with a specific problem I need to solve, whether on a server or in a survival world. If a task requires a better tool, I’ll design a ship around that purpose. That process keeps my work grounded, ensuring that each build has a clear role and remains focused on usability rather than excess. Over time, this approach has shaped both my design style and the direction of my Workshop as a whole. Some other sources of inspiration include Star Wars, Alien, and other gritty, lived in scifi settings.

One of the most rewarding parts of sharing my work on the Workshop has been the community. I enjoy interacting with other builders, exchanging ideas, and seeing the different approaches people take to similar challenges. The feedback I receive is consistently valuable, especially related to small suggestions for improvements I may have overlooked. It’s also great hearing how my designs are used in actual gameplay. Knowing that a design is helping someone in the game or inspires others is very motivating.”

[SPRT] ‘Loup Garou’ Pirate Raider

Originally commissioned as a forgettable Weaver-Class utility boat, the ‘Loup ‘Garou’ spent her early career hauling containers, salvaging wrecks, and chewing through ore deposits.

Seized and retrofit by SPRT pirates during a border dispute, her cargo containers now support assault turrets with clean firing arcs, and the utility arms have been reinforced to handle the recoil of dual railguns. The power supply system has been haphazardly upgraded to support these “refits”.

(MCI) Atlas-Class Mobile Logistics Hub

The Atlas-class Mobile Logistics Hub is MCI’s solution for sustaining long-range operations when normal supply lines have collapsed or are not yet in place. Built on a heavy cruiser hull, the Atlas carries the weight of the fleet—literally—through bulk fuel reserves, massive cargo storage, and a powerful onboard refining and fabrication suite.

[MCI] Type-5 Heavy Dockyard “Wishbone”

Dockyard-5, informally christened “Wishbone” by hauler crews, is a Type-5 heavy-frame dockyard designed for broad-spectrum ship servicing, retrofits, and mid-scale cargo turnover. Its distinctive frame resembles a split carcass, earning its unique nickname.

[MCI] Frontier Mk2

The new Frontier Mk2 is Midori Consolidated Industries’ latest evolution in modular freighter design—an industrial-grade platform engineered for deep-space transport, on-site resource processing, and mission-adaptable deployment. This variant has been repainted in the Measure 3A ‘Standard Sage’ livery.

[MCI] Irkalla-Class Heavy Cruiser

The Irkalla-class is a purpose-built heavy cruiser designed for direct assault and overwhelming single-target firepower. Built around a forward-facing railgun array and staggered turrets, the Irkalla-class excels at head-on engagements where bringing maximum damage to bear as quickly as possible is the priority. Heavy armor protection, reinforced forward sections, and excellent agility support aggressive tactics, enabling the Irkalla to push into combat zones and maintain pressure on the enemy while under return fire.
