Modder Spotlight: Digi

Welcome to our Creator spotlight!

Continuing our series of Space Engineers modder Spotlights with the legend, the one and only Digi

We invite you to browse extensive workshop collection by Digi. With so much to explore there is certain to be something for everyone.

I’ve always been tinkering with things, like when I got my first PC I started messing around with Counter-Strike 1.1’s files to change radio texts and bots’ chat messages, a while after that made some server addons too (using AMXX, like a CTF mode and a few private ones). I dabbled in modelling at this time as well, making custom reload and draw animations for sine of the first-person guns.

Then came Minecraft where I learned OOP from messing with Java to mod it, which helped pave the road to learning C# for SE.

I’ve started playing Space Engineers mid 2014, the update that added multiplayer was what sold me on it, to play coop with friends. I inevitably delved into modding it, the Programmable Block was what pulled me in at first because C# looked similar to Java that I already had experience in.
My first published mod was for adding gravity to specific spots (by admins) as I wanted to play on a planet/moon, which of course Space Engineers now has built in. đź™‚

Since then I learned a lot about not just programming in a game environment but also learned new modelling things, like the fact that you can get rounded corners with just one bevel and proper vertex normals.

At present I’m still experimenting with mods, updating some, neglecting others… =)
And hanging around Keen discord’s modding & Programmable Block channels.

Paint Gun – realistic painting for survival

This mod adds a Paint Gun tool which uses ‘ammo’ to slowly paint blocks (like welders).

What this is really useful for is painting blocks that are behind/between other blocks, like blocks behind landing gears, cramped large ship interiors, etc. without using large-area painting from the vanilla paint method.

Aerodynamic Wings

This mod adds 3 wing blocks for small ships. They’re all slightly different wing variations, a straight, a slightly angled and a more angled one, all of which are 5 blocks wide, 1 block tall and 1 to 3 blocks in length.

These blocks apply lift when moved against their large area sides while also moving forward in an atmosphere, like a wing. The higher you go the less efficient the wings will get all the way to no resistance when in space.

Ladder

This mod allows you to use weapons/tools and interact with buttons/inventories/etc while on the ladder.

Conveyor Hinges

This mod adds 3 blocks that are basically advanced rotors with different mounting points.

BuildInfo

Displays more information about the block you’re holding or aiming at, along with tons of other features like air leak finding or overlays.

ParticleEditor

A plugin for Space Engineers game to allow modders to develop particles much easier.
